Toy farm tractors have been popular amongst children since the 1930s. Often seeking to emulate their parents or other farm-hand family members, kids began collecting farm-related toys such as John Deere toy miniatures. In the late 1960s, these John Deere toy tractors began becoming popular with serious toy collectors, ushering in a new era of respect for farm-related toys. Of the many reasons that people now collect toy tractors, nostalgia is the winner. Many adults remember the toys that they originally had as children and want to acquire them again. Many of these adults want to pass that same joy unto their own children, but for the most part, classic John Deere toys are collected in order to bring back the childhood memories of the collector in question.
There are different scales of John Deere toy tractors, with the most common being 1/16. This size is the most sought out from toy tractor collectors. 1/16 scale represents one inch for every sixteen inches of a regular full size tractor. Limited amounts of collectors seek out the 1/64 scale John Deere toys, mainly for a lack of space within their display area. Whether collecting shelf models, collector's editions still encased in the original packaging, or simply purchasing an old pedal tractor for restoration purposes, the love for John Deere collectable toys has not died. The company has recently realized this and has begun a new line of kid's items, including books and new toys. While these new plastic toys might not be as popular with collectors as the original die-cast toys, it is still refreshing to know that the love of John Deere toys still burns strong within many people and will continue to do so for ages.
